Memorial Day BBQ

Our Memorial Day BBQ quite possibly might have been our most indulgent event yet. As the people, food and alcohol came pouring in, I had the silly thought that we might actually have too much!

In addition to a few bottles of wine, Jo and I made peach cobbler, green pea hummus, guacamole, fruit salad and I decided to fry some of the amazing fresh ravioli Kaitlin procured from her recent jont to the Bronx. Adam and Jen brought a great bottle of red, about a case of Magic Hat and several packages of sausage for the grill. Kaitlin provided another treat from her journey north with a prosciutto bread and manned the drinks with her out of control Micheladas (with Corona's courtesy of Marietta). Ayesha whipped up some mean white sangria.

My friend Mike and his guest brought veal kabobs and macaroni and cheese, along with even more wine. Kaiser brought an amazing Roja wine (which I drank most of). The grill master of the evening had to be Nelson. He took it upon himself to make grilled halibut and carne asada tacos with all the homemade accompaniments (right down to the chimichuri and napa slaw!). As though that was not enough, he proceeded to make grilled bacon and cheese stuffed jalapenos. He also brought wine and beer, of course.

Adam August and his girlfriend dropped by just in time for another beer run (Yes, we still ended up running out!)

This may sound like a bit much for 12 brave souls, I certainly though so as I desperately tried to find nooks and crannies for the incoming surge of food and beer. Somehow (Perhaps a memorial day miracle?) after a few hours, we did in fact have to venture out on a quest to replenish our beverage selection, and there were very few leftovers to speak of!

As the ipod schizophrenically danced between Frank Sinatra, Taylor Swift and mariachi, we spent very little time memorializing and simply lived in the hedonistic moment! Strangely, not one but two guests proclaimed that Nelson's taco's had actually eclipsed sex for them, rendering them celibate. I believe that the exact sentiment was "This fish taco has ruined sex for me, it will never satisfy me as deeply as this is right now!" They were really good tacos.

There were debacles and misadventures galor, but what happens in EWI stays in EWI! (You can only get so much vicariously through these re-caps!)

Overall, it was one of our best events of the new year (The only thing that could have made it better is if YOU were there!) After much discussion, it was decided that terrace dinner parties may be the preferred format for the summer. Don't worry, we will still have outings and dinners, but there is something so purely in keeping with the spirit of Eating With Impunity about cooking and drinking together (excessively) on a beautiful summer night!

Happy Memorial Day EWI, here's to many, many more!
